Valentine’S Day Roses – How Much Is Too Much?
Heru Purnomo

Roses are one of the most popular flowers to send, especially to a Valentine. From a small bouquet to an oversized arrangement, to pastel hues and classic red shades, there are a variety of options to choose from. With so much choice available, there is something to suit all, but how much is too much?

The different types of roses available

There are many variants of roses in existence, including some of the following:

·“Red France”- This particular rose boasts characteristic flared, sharp rose petal edges. In the height of bloom, it is extremely large and showcases multiple petal layers.

·“Checkmate Roses” – With their distinctive thick and fat petal layers, and somewhat angled edges, these roses are a popular option for a bouquet.

·“Freedom Roses” – This is a great rose to use for flower arrangements, as it boasts tall, slim and elegant petals. The petals are also very good at retaining their shape, only flaring slightly when fully matured.

·“Sexy Red” – This type of rose is very similar to the “Freedom” rose but showcases a slightly higher petal count and a gorgeous rich red hue. Due to its appearance, it’s another great option for flower arrangements.

·“Wanted Roses” – This species petals are both thick and wavy and reveal a darker shade of red than the majority of rose species. The petals tend to drop to create a wider floral display.

·“Spanish Dress” – This is the second darkest shade of rose in existence and features tall straight petals.

·“Hearts Roses” – This is one of the richest hued roses available. It is characterized by its thick, curly, and profoundly layered petals, which are similar to that of a garden rose.

The different costs of roses

Both the type of rose and the amount make a difference when it comes to cost. If you choose a rarer species, expect to pay more. Similarly, if you opt for a bigger bouquet or a more creative arrangement, you should again budget for this.

Why are some roses more expensive than others?

Certain roses are more expensive than others due to a number of reasons. They may be out of season, or alternatively, they may be harder to the source. On another note, they may be more fragile and as such, flower delivery must be handled with greater care.

Why certain florists charge more?

This could be due to location, the roses they stock and their status. If you’re trying to stick to a budget, it’s important to inquire about costs prior to choosing a bouquet. Another point to consider is delivery. To ensure you keep costs down, it’s always a good idea to order in advance, as it’s likely you’ll be charged a higher rate for next day delivery. However, if you’re prepared to shop around, you’ll discover florists that offer same day and next day delivery for no extra cost.

What is the appropriate flower gift for each stage of the relationship?

The species you choose, the amount, and the color of the rose given all portray different meanings. If you wish to gift a bouquet that corresponds to a certain milestone in your relationship, it’s wise to do your research.

·Red roses are symbolic of beauty, love, passion, courage, and respect. They’re a great gift to give those you’re romantically connected to and also, a good option if you wish to say ‘congratulations’, or ‘I love you’. Darker red hues portray feelings of unconscious beauty.

·White roses on the other hand conger up feelings of innocence, purity, silence, humility, secrecy, reverence and youthfulness. They’re a great gift to give those you believe yourself to be worthy of.

·Pink roses showcase appreciation, happiness, gentleness, and admiration. They’re a good option if you wish to say thank you to someone for something they have done or said.

·Yellow roses showcase feelings of gladness, delight, promise, remembrance, friendship and new beginnings. If you’re welcoming a friend, colleague or family member back, these are the roses to give.

·Peach roses again show appreciation and sincerity. If you’re closing a deal or wish to get together with a special someone, this is the perfect hue to opt for.

Roses by numbers

How many roses are too many? If you wish to portray certain feelings, it’s also important to give the correct number of roses. As we’ve detailed here, each has a different connotation:

·A single rose of any hue depicts utmost devotion

·Two roses knotted together mean ‘Marry me’

·Six roses indicate the need to be loved or valued

·Eleven roses promise the recipient they are truly and deeply in love and as such, make a great gift for a partner, husband or wife

·Thirteen roses are meant to give to love interest by a secret admirer

As you can see, there’s plenty to consider if you think about giving roses on Valentine’s Day
